What is perineum?
region of the body that lies between the thighs and the buttocks, extending posteriorly from the coccyx to the pubis anteriorly and up to the pelvic diaphragm
What lies in the true pelvis?
pelvic colon, rectum, bladder and reproductive organs
What anatomical landmark can be felt on the hips?
anterior suprerior iliac spine
What are the 4 sections of the bony pelvis?
ischium, ilium, pubis and sacrum
What bones make up the acetabulum?
Ilium, pubis and ischiumv
What are the 4 main differences between males and female pelvises?
Male - tilted less far forward, cavity of true pelvis is narrow and deep, bones are heavier and thicker, pelvic brim is heart shaped
Female - tilted forward, cavity of tru pelvis is broad and shallow, bones lighter and thinner, pelvic brim is rounded
What does the false pelvis support?
the intestines
What would happen if the pelvis floor muscles are weakened?
The bladder would herniate through the anterior part of the vagina
What is the pelvis?
lower part of the trunk surrounded by bones, ligaments and muscles
