Pekol (Transport Demand Modelling - Mode Split) Flashcards
What is the purpose of model split?
Determining by which mode trips will be undertaken (bus, train, car, piggy back)
What are the factors influencing mode choice?
- Characteristics of the trip maker (Does Robbie want Grill’d or is his car broken down)
- Characteristics of the journey
- Characteristics of the transport system
- Characteristics of trip origin and destination (demographic characteristics)
What are the two factor based approaches?
- Uniform factoring
- Sector based factoring
What are the pros of factor based approaches?
- Simple to develop and apply
- Suitable for areas with no or little likelihood of significant change to existing mode choice behaviour (e.g Toowoomba.. let’s face it.. it’ll never change.. but seriously, no changing public transport in near future?)
What is a common name for the great Robert Hoffmann?
The Hoff
Why do people become vegans?
I have no answer for this.
Why is the Binary Logit Model called a Binary logit model?
Because you have a choice of twoq
When are Pivot Point models useful?
For estimating the impact of incremental changes in modal travel costs.
What are direct demand models?
Combines trip generation, distribution and mode split into a single well defined model.
What are the benefits of direct demand models?
- overcomes theoretical problems of 4-step process
- proved useful in inter-urban studies
What are the issues with direct demand models?
- large number of parameters to calibrate
- requires a lot of input data
- few successful urban applications
