Characteristic symptoms of croup?
A
Distinctive barky coughs
Inspiratory stridor

Most common form of croup?
A
Laryngotracheobronchitis or viral croup caused by either parainfluenza virus or RSV

Rx croup?
A
Improve air exchange with nebulized epinephrine and corticosteroids

Imaging findings in croup on soft tissue neck X-ray?
A
Steeple sign (AP neck radiographs) - uniform narrowing of the subglottic airway (tapering of upper trachea) Subglottic edema and narrowing on lateral soft tissue radiograph -> important to demonstrate normal epiglottis (exclude epiglottitis -> thumb sign); also can exclude retropharyngeal abscess Distention of hypopharynx

Usually normal; can be used to r/o foreign body
