Positional Left Plagiocephaly

A
  • Typically due to congenital muscular torticollis on the right
  • Supine positoning that results in excessive pressures on a malleable skull

  • Prevention about education about prolonged supine position and CMT.
  • More successful with early intervention

Cranial Remolding

A
  • If PT does not correct problem a helmet is prescribed made of thermoplastic material
  • As the brain grows it pushes the skull into the helmet and remodels the skull
  • Worn 20-23 hours/ day for 3-7 months
  • Most effective if begun between 4-6 months
  • At 18 months the sutures of the skull fuse and the helmet is no longer useful
