- cord can compress due to chondral tissue from growth plate or disk injury
- can be a purely traction related injury due to the elasticity of the spinal column… the immature column is much more mobile than the spinal cord itself

they are more horizontal and more mobile
- cervical pseudosubluxation
- increases risk of injuries above C4

A
- less than 8 years of age
- less then 4mm of translation, which reduces on extension
