Live Vaccines
MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) Varicella (Chickenpox) Zoster (Shingles) Nasal-Spray Flu Vaccine *Can't use in newborns
Hepatitis B Vaccine Schedule
Babies normally get 3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine:
1st Dose: Birth
2nd Dose: 6-8 weeks of age
3rd Dose: 4-18 months of age
Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine ( PCV13 or Prevnar) Schedule
1st Dose: 6-8 weeks of age
2nd Dose: 4 months
3rd Dose: 6 months
Booster: 12-15 Months
Haemophilus influenzae type b Vaccine (HIB)
Not routinely given to children age 5 years and older
2,4,6 months and booster 15-18 months
IPV (Inactivated Polio Virus)
1st Dose: 6-8 weeks of age
2nd Dose: 4 months
3rd Dose: 6 months
Booster: 4-6 years
DTaP Vaccine(Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis)
Schedule: Five primary doses + Booster every 10 years 1st Dose: 6-8 weeks of age 2nd Dose: 4 months 3rd Dose: 6 months 4th Dose: 12-15 Months 5th: 4-6 years
Rotavirus Vaccine (rotateq, rotarix)
ORAL-Live attenuated vaccine
First Dose: 6-8 weeks of age
Second Dose: 4 months of age
Third Dose: 6 months of age (only for RotaTeq)
Influenza (“flu shot”)
Recommended for all children annually aged 6 mos to 18 yrs and close contacts of all children 0-59 mos.
For children aged 6 mos to 8 yrs require 2 doses (separated by at least 4 weeks) to children who are receiving influenza vaccine for the first time
Hepatitis A Vaccine Schedule
1st dose 12 months
2nd dose 24 months
Measles, Mump, Rubella Vaccine (MMR)
First dose of MMR at 12-18 months
Second dose of MMR at 4-6 years
Varicella vaccine (Varivax)
1st dose at 12-15 months of age
2nd dose at 4-6 yrs
Live, attenuated virus
Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV4)
Two doses of MCV4 are recommended for adolescents 11-18 yrs of age:
the first dose at 11 or 12 years of age, with a booster dose at age 16.
HPV Vaccine (gardisil)
routine vaccination of all adolescents 11-12 years of age
Routine schedule is 0, 2, 6 months
Pediarix
DTaP – Hep B – IPV combination
Minimum age 6 weeks
Approved for 3 doses at 2, 4 and 6 months
Can only use up to 7 years old
With the new vaccine combos, a typical vaccination schedule may look like this:
Birth: Hepatitis B 2 Months: Prevnar, Hib, Pediarix 4 Months: Prevnar, Hib, Pediarix 6 Months: Prevnar, Hib, Pediarix 9 Months: Nothing 12 Months: Prevnar, Hib, HepA 15-18 Months: DTaP, ProQuad (MMRV) 18-24 Months: HepA 4-6 Years: Kinrix (DTaP-IPV) and ProQuad (MMRV)
