In neonates (<28) weeks with a fever of 100.4, what does the work up consist of?
Under 28 days with fever 100.4 all get a work up of CBC, UA, CXR, cultures and CSF as in this age group high risk for SBI around 12%.
If a neonate (<28 weeks) has a fever, what do you give?
You give antibioitcs/antivirals asap (ampicillin, gentamycin and acyclovir)

Group B strep, E.coli, N. meningiditis, Listeria, Herpes
For an infant 29 days-60 days old, what are the criteria for the following (to admit):
- WBC
- ANC
- UA
- CXR
- LP
- WBC <5,000 or >15,000
- ANC >1,500
- UA >10
- CXR if resp sxs
- LP >10
If any of the 29-60 day labs are positive, what should you do?
Hospitalize + abx
In age group 29-60, if CBC and UA negative, do you need to do an LP?
No
If you give ABX what do you need to also do?
GIVE AN LP

S. pneumo, H.flu B, N. meningiditis, Listeria

Ceftoxamine or ceftriaxone

Ampicillin
