functional retention - kids are tightening the external sphincter to prevent pooping!!

- complete evacuation or disimpaction (enema or meds)
- sustained evacuation to restore normal colorectal tone
- weaning from intervention
constipation vs encopresis
constipation - hard stool, difficult to pass, less than 3 stools per week…etc
encopresis - fecal soiling result of looser stool leaking or overflowing from a rectum that has been distended by retained stool (loose poop going around hard poop)

Bowel and bladder control by what age?
4 years
Worry about hirschprungs disease when?
if newborn hasnt pooped within first 24-48 hours
Was fecal continence ever attained - think?
