Pedes Flashcards
1
Q
Pedes Management
A
- Trauma is the leading cause of death and disability >1 yo
- Anatomy/physiotherapy in children is different, mgt of injuries sometimes differ.
- Prompt triage/ tnp to appropriate centres is key
- Most trauma deaths is due to TBI
- Prehospital are should focus on A,R, shock, spinal immobilizations, and rapid tsp.
- Hypoxia/ shock are significant factors in Secondary Cerebral Injury
2
Q
Physiological Characteristics
A
Higher metabolic rate/increased oxygen consumption
Increased cardiac output and ventilation to match increased metabolic demand
Small volume lungs with small oxygen resevoir
Quick to develop gastric distention which can lead to decreased lung capacity
3
Q
Signs of Hypoxemia
A
Cyanosis Agitation Poor cap refill Bradycardia Desaturation on pulse oximetry
4
Q
Signs of Inadequate Ventilation
A
Tachypnea Nasal flaring Grunting Retractions Stridor or wheezing
5
Q
Signs of Shock
A
Tachycardia Cool extremities Altered LOC Low urine input Cap Refill >3 secs Cyanosis Mottling/pallor Weak distal pulses
6
Q
Signs of Respiratory Distress
A
- Frightened look
- Flared nostrils
- Pale skin
- Bluish nail beds
- Rapid belly breathing
- Retractions
