Pectoral Region Flashcards
Pectoralis Major AAIN
Attachments: clavicle, costal cartilages, sternum & aponeurosis of external oblique to the lateral lip of the intertubercular sulcus of humerus
Actions: Humeral adduction, flexion, medial rotation (sternocostal portion helps extend flexed arm)
Innervation: medial and lateral pectoral nerves
Nerve Roots: C5-6 and C7-T1
Pectoralis Minor AAIN
Attachments: outer surfaces of ribs 3-5 to coracoid process
Actions: anterior tilt of scapula, assists with depression of shoulder and forced inspiration
Innervation: medial and lateral pectoral nerves
Nerve Roots: C5-T1
Serratus Anterior AAIN
Attachments: outer surfaces and superior borders of upper 8-10 ribs to the costal surface of the medial border of scapula
Actions: scapular protraction, upward rotation
Innervation: long thoracic nerve
Nerve Roots: C5-7
Subclavius AAIN
Attachments: 1st rib and cartilage to the undersurface of clavicle
Actions: depression & stabilization of clavicle
Innervation: subclavian nerve
Nerve Roots: C5-6
Name the pectoral (shoulder) girdle joints.
Sternoclavicular, acromioclavicular, glenohumeral, scapulothoracic
What is the synovial classification of the sternoclavicular joint?
Sellar/saddle
What is the synovial classification of the acromioclavicular joint?
Plane/gliding
What is the synovial classification of the glenohumeral joint?
Ball & socket
What is the synovial classification of the scapulothoracic joint?
Pseudo-joint necessary for full glenohumeral function
Function of coracoclavicular ligament?
Stabilizes acromioclavicular joint limiting medial displacement, protraction & elevation
Attachments of coracoclavicular ligament?
Trapezoid- coracoid process to trapezoid line of clavicle
Conoid- coracoid process to conoid tubercle of clavicle
Function of acromioclavicular ligament?
Stabilizes acromioclavicular joint
Attachments of acromioclavicular ligament?
Superior aspect of acromial end of clavicle to adjacent acromion
Function of coracoacromial ligament?
Prevents the superior displacement of the humeral head by forming the coracoacromial arch
Attachments of coracoacromial ligament?
Lateral border of coracoid process to acromion adjacent to clavicular articulation
