What is war?
Fighting between nations to resolve issues between them.

The ‘making up’ or ‘patching up’ of a broken relationship by forgiving & forgetting past acts.

When you stop feeling angry and hurt about something someone has done to you.

A war fought in the name of religion.

Against violence of any kind.

Where certain conditions must be met for a war to be considered ‘just’.

Weapons that work by a nuclear reaction; they devastate huge areas and kill large numbers of people.

Weapons that can kill large numbers of people and/or cause great damage.

Weapons that use chemicals to poison, burn or paralyse humans and destroy the natural environment.

Weapons that have living organisms or infective material that can lead to disease or death.
What is greed in the context of war?
War has been used throughout history to gain territory and treasures from weaker nations. Leaders can be motivated to start a war through greed.
What is self-defence?
Fighting back once someone has attacked you is seen as morally acceptable as a way of trying to protect and save the lives of the people in the country.

Deliberately harming another country because they have harmed you.

An expression of disapproval, often in a public group.

this refers to the struggle of defending Islam. It is less important than greater jihad. It can
only be used to defend Islam from a serious threat. It was more important in the early days of the faith
when Islam was still growing and was regularly threatened. Lesser Jihad cannot be used to justify acts of
terror or the murder of innocent people. It also cannot be used to try and convert others to the religi
