PEA and Asystole Flashcards
What are your differentials for PEA/Asystole?
(Hs and Ts) Hypovolemia, hypoxemia, hypothermia, hyperkalemia, hypokalemia, hydrogen ions, toxins (over dose), tamponade, tension pneumo, coronary thrombosis, and pulmonary thrombosis
What are the parts of the initial assessment?
1) confirm pulselessness
2) place autopulse or begin compressions
3) open airway, insert OPA, begin manual ventilation w/ 100% oxygen at once every 10 seconds.
Go through the rest of the protocol
1) 4 lead, and defib pads
2) Establish IV of NS
3) administer Epinephrine 1 mg 1:10000
4) establish advanced airway
5) attach capnography
6) reassess rhythm every 2 minutes
7) administer epinephrine 1 mg 1:10000
8) reassess rhythm
How much fluid should be given if hypovolemia is suspected?
500 mL bolus
What should be done if glucose is less than 60?
Administer 100mL of D10
If suspected acidosis, hyperkalemia, prolonged resuscitation, tricyclic OD then administer:
sodium bicarbonate 1mEq/kg IVP
If suspected narcotics OD:
Administer 2mg of Narcan in 0.5mg doses
When an advanced airway is placed how often should you ventilate?
once every 6 to 8 seconds.
