Bradycardia Flashcards
What are the signs and symptoms of bradycardia?
chest pain, respiratory distress, hypotension or shock, altered mental status, syncope
What are the two parts of the EMT-B portion of this protocol?
1) Initial assessment: general impression, airway, breathing, circulation
2) Place the patient on the pulse oximeter and give O2 if needed.
If the patient is not showing signs of poor perfusion or shock what are the Paramedic’s steps of this protocol?
Cardiac monitor, obtain a 12 lead, IV access, transport
What are the signs and symptoms of inadequate perfusion?
AMS, chest pain, SOB, diaphoresis, hypotension, syncope
If the patient is showing signs and symptoms of inadequate perfusion what are your two treatment options?
TCP or atropine
What is the dosage of atropine in this situation?
0.5mg IVP, may repeat once is neccesary max dose is 3 mg.
If atropine is ineffective:
administer TCP immediately at a rate of 70 bpm. Increase in 10mA increments until capture is achieved.
Electrical capture is defined by:
a stimulus marker followed by a WIDE QRS marker w/ no underlying rhythm and followed by a T wave.
Mechanical capture is confirmed when:
the patient’s pulse matches the displayed pace rate.
Which artery should be used to confirm mechanical capture?
The right brachial or radial artery.
If hypotension exists with bradycardia then you should treat the ______.
bradycardia
