long bones: e.g femur, humerus
sesamoid: e.g patella
flat bones: e.g scapula, ribs, skull,
sternum
irregular bones: e.g bones of face, vertebrae
Anatomical movements:
flexion, extention, abduction, adduction, circumduction, rotation, pronation, supination, eversion, inversion, dorsi flexion, plantar flexion, elevation, depression
flexion: down in a squat , bending
extention: kicking soccer ball, straightening elbow or knee
abduction: lifting arm out to the side
adduction: returining arm into body or towards midline
circumduction: movment of end of bone in circular motion
rotation: movement of a body part around a central axis
pronation: rotation of the hand is that the thumb moves in towards the body, palm facing down
supination: rotation of the hand is that the thumb moves away from the body, palm facing up
eversion: movement of the sole of the foot away from the midline
inversion: movement of the sole of the foot towards the midline
dorsi flexion: decrease in the angle of the joint between the foot and lower leg, raising toes upwards
