PE paper 1 - long and short term effects of excersize Flashcards
what is heart hypertrophy
The increased size of the heart muscle will increase Stroke Volume (volume of blood pumped out of the hear per beat) and Cardiac Output (volume of blood pumped out of the heart per minute).
What are 5 long term benefits of exercise on the heart
Stronger heart- Higher volume of blood ejected per beat/increased cardiovascular endurance
Lower resting heart rate- Higher volume of blood ejected per beat so the heart does not need to beat as often
Bradycardia- Resting heart rate below 60
Reduced risk of heart attack/CHD
Capillarisation- Increased number of capillaries over the heart muscle means increased rate of gaseous exchange.
6 positive long term effects of excersise on the respiratory system
Increased TIDAL VOLUME and MINUTE VOLUME
Increased efficiency of the respiratory system
Increased capillarisation
Increased surface area of alveoli
Increased efficiency to take in O2 and supply to muscles
Increased strength of respiratory muscles
DECREASED risk of lung disease
4 long term effects of exercise on performance
Increase endurance
Quicker recovery time
Increase performance levels
Participation in running at older age
10 long term benefits to excersise on muscles
Muscle Hypertrophy - An increase in muscle size due to training.
Reduced risk of injury
Greater potential for energy production
Increase removal of lactic acid
Increase recovery rate
Increase tolerance to lactic acid
Increase muscle flexibility
Increase muscle strength
Increase muscular endurance
Increase speed of contraction
