Folk dance
A type of folk dance which refers to dances particular to one locale or area
Regional folk dance
A type of folk dance which refers to those performed all over the country
National folk dance
Best known & close to the Filipino heart, the dances are from the rural Christian lowlands
Rural dance
The coming of Spaniards in the 16th century brought a new influence in Philippine life. Also named in the honor of the legendary Maria Clara
Spanish influence dance
Sinkilwas introduced after the 14th century, this was based on the epic legend of Darangan of the maranao
Mindanao dance
Dances of mountain tribe in northern luzon, like Kalinga and Ifugao people
Cordillera dances
Cultural minorities that live in the hills and mountains throughout the Philippine archipelago considering dances as part of daily life.
Ethnic/Tribal Dance
Encircle both arms in front of the chest with the fingertips 1inch apart
Heels together, toes apart with an angle of 45 degrees
1st Position
Astride sideward of about a pace or 1ft distance
Both arms raised sideward with a graceful curve
2nd position
One arm raised sideward and other arm overhead
Heel of one foot close to the in-step of the other foot
3rd position
One arm in a half circle in front, other raised overhead
One foot infront of other about a pace distance
4th position
To turn the hand from the wrist either clockwise or counterclockwise (outward or inward)
Kumintang
With fist closed and thumb sticking out lower and raise the wrist
Palpatik
Turn hand half clockwise, raise and lower the wrist twice
Masiwak
Elbows close to waist and forearms parallel, turn hand up and down
Bilao
Fist closed and thumb sticking out turn hand outward or inward
Kewet
To bring both arms either to the right or left, could be done in 3 levels (shoulder, chest, waist)
Arms in lateral
To scoop down with slight bending of the trunk and finish upward with right or left arm overhead
Salok
To cross right hand over the left or vice versa
Sarok
Bring one forearm in front and the other in rear, waist level slight twisting of the trunk
Hayon-hayon
Arms in 4th position, fist closed move elbows up and down
Tumba-tumba
Foot nearer the partner when partners stand side by side
Inside foot
The foot away from one’s partner when partners stand side by side
Outside foot
