Depression is a serious mental health condition which affects your everyday life, although it is a common mental illness it if often left untreated by most, depression has over 10 different types and charecteristic most common types include seasonal depression, chronic depression, major depression and atypical depression. Having depression can negatively affect your social, physical and emotional skills and wellbeing because you become unwilling to engage and start to dissociate from relationship, physical activity and your emotions. Out of all age groups, young people are the most prone to depression, with about 20% of adolescents report experiencing symptons, they are also the most likey age group to not seek help due to factors such as, fear of being judged for having a mental health issue can prevent young people from seeking help, lack of awareness as some teenagers may not recognize the signs of depression or may not understand that what they are experiencing is a mental health concern and lack of access, limited access to mental health resources, such as therapy or counseling, which are essential to treating depression as it provides a one on one safe space with a medical professional who can help identify concerns and find coping strategies which can ease the severity of the young persons depression and make them feel understood, so not having this service can be a barrier to treating depression. Which is why it is so important to create a supportive environment where young people feel comfortable discussing their mental health concerns, such as depression and to educate them about the importance of seeking help when needed. Headspace is an example of this, due to its variety of support methods such as in person and online to ensure the users privacy and prioritise users comfort.
