PBL 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is perfusion?
A
The pulmonary blood flow that reache the arteries and capillaries surrounding the alveoli
2
Q
What is the V/Q ration?
A
The ratio between ventilation and perfusion
3
Q
Why is the V/Q higher at the apex of of the lungs?
A
As perfusion increases at the base of the lung due to gravity so we get wasted perfusion
We also have larger alveoli at the apex of the lungs and a smaller pulmonary vein pressure so less b,kid flow
4
Q
What is the average V/Q ration
A
0.8
5
Q
Why is it important to match ventilation and perfusion?
A
As it ensures a continuous delivery of oxygen and removal of carbon dioxide from the body
