Pavlov Flashcards
What type of conditioning did pavlov research and what does this mean?
Classical conditioning- Behaviours could be learnt through association
What was pavlovs experiment?
He studied the digestive system of dogs as he noticed they salivated in response to food and other stimuli associated with food like a bell
For example
The Uconditioned stimulus (food) caused and unconditioned response (saliva)
When the bell (neutral stimulus) is paired with the food, over time it becomes a conditioned stimulus and the saliva becomes a conditioned response to the bell
What did pavlovs work show?
Showed that behaviors could ve influenced and modified through conditioning and learning
Evaluation
Strength- replicable, practical applications
Weakness- focuses on observable behaviour and neglects the cognitive approach involved
