What is a measuring aid?
A tool used to measure something.
Examples: ruler, tape measure, etc.
This avoids potential human errors.
Can also be jigs/fixtures/templates which are measuring aids for cutting.
What is a jig?
A device used to control the motion of a tool when encountering a workpiece.
Most common type is a drilling
jig which is used to ensure that
holes are drilled into the
correct location every time.
What is a template?
Consist of a shape or pattern which is used to transfer a design onto a workpiece. Its often made using thin manufactured board.
The template is held in position while the outline is traced onto the material.
What is a fixture?
A device used to hold, position and support workpieces while being machined. e.g. a clamp.
Ensures consistency.
