Temperature
Older adults, the young, patients with cardiovascular conditions, patients who have ingested drugs or alcohol in excess, and people who are homeless are at high risk for hypothermia. And Chronically ill patients, older adults, and infants are at greatest risk for injury from extreme heat, which can lead to heatstroke or heat exhaustion.

Patient-Inherent Accidents
Which a patient is the primary reason for the accident (self-inflicted cuts, burns, injections, Seizure disorder, etc.)
Procedure-Related Accidents
Caused by health care providers and include medication and fluid administration errors, improper application of external devices, and accidents related to improper performance of procedures such as dressing changes or urinary catheter insertion.
Equipment-Related Accidents
Result from an electrical hazard or malfunction, disrepair, or misuse of equipment.
Workplace Safety
Act or threat of violence, ranging from verbal abuse to physical assault, directed toward persons at work or on duty.

Assessment
Process thoroughly assess each patient and they environment. Critically analyze findings to ensure that you make patient-centered clinical decisions required for safe patient care.
Nursing Assessment Questions
Patient’s Activity and Exercise, Medication History, History of Falls, Home Maintenance and Safety.
Diagnoses
Gather data from your nursing assessment and analyze clusters of assessment findings, including risk factors, to identify relevant nursing diagnoses.
Planning
Patients with actual or potential risks to safety require a nursing care plan with interventions that prevent and minimize threats to their safety.
Implementation
The step that involves action or doing and the actual carrying out of nursing interventions outlined in the plan of care.
Health promotion
Requires a person to be in a safe environment and practice a lifestyle that minimizes risk of injury.
Never induce vomiting if the victim has ingested:
lye, household cleaners, hair care products, grease or petroleum products, furniture polish, paint thinner, or kerosene.
