Patient Safety Flashcards

Safety Considerations
Communication and Record Keeping
Posture involves the relationship of the body parts to each
other.
A person needs good posture to reduce the risk for
injury when lifting patients or heavy equipment.
Basic Body Mechanics
Conscious people assume positions that are the most comfortable.
Bedridden patients with acute or chronic respiratory dysfunction often
assume an upright position, with their arms flexed and their thorax
leaning forward.
Moving Patient in Bed
It helps maintain normal body function. Extended bed rest can cause numerous problems, including bed sores and atelectasis (low lung volumes)
Ambulation
Ambulation should begin as soon as the patient is ?
Physiologically stable and free from severe pain
Ambulation has been shown to reduce the length of hospital stay and ___ days readmissions in hospitalized heart failure patient.
30- day
When monitoring the patient during ambulation you should take note of?
Level of consciousness
Breathing
Color
Strength and weakness
Complaints such as pain or shortness of breath throughout the activity
Ambulation is increased gradually until ?
The patient is ready to be discharged
3 conditions must exist for a fire to start
> Flammable materials must be present
02 must be present
The flammable material must be heated above its ignition temperature
Examples of flammable materials
Cotton, wool, polyester materials, bed clothing, paper materials, plastics
________________ are another potential hazard because they supply high concentration of O2 in a pressurized enclosed environment.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers
P.A.S.S
P - pull tge pin
A - aim the nozzle
S - squeeze the handle
S - sweep the nozzle across the base of the fire
R.A.C.E
R - rescue patients in the immediate area of fire
A - alert other personnel
C - contain the fire
E - evacuate othe patiens and personnel
