Q

Q

what are the types of PROMS

A

generic-taking the measurement in any patient population
disease specific- developed to be specific to that disease
unidimensional - only 1 element measured e.g pain
multidimensional- lots of different symptoms measured
PROM will be 2 of these e.g generic and unidimensional- asking all patients using fatigue impact scale

Q

why are PROMS important

A

physchological impact of patients is often unrecognised, often overlooked that quality of life is more important to patents than quantity and highlights that patients and clinicians have different priorities and perspectives are different which can aid decision making for clinicians in future

Q

how are PROMS used in routine clinical practise

A

inform decision making, helps improve satisfaction with patient care, increases survival because know how to improve and means less frequent healthcare visits required if patentees can fill this out at home and send it in

Q

what are the major issues withs using PROM’s

A

patients don’t complete the surveys, often because they don’t know why they are doing it. clinicians get any feed back so for them it seems like a waste of time which means a lot of time and effort spent wasted chasing people to fill out forms
