Trendelenburg
Shock position
Patient is supine(face up) with feet elevated and head down
Increase blood flow to the brain
Sims
Left side lying position
Benefits patients with abdominal distension or liver disease
Orthopedic
Semi fowler position
Patient is seated upright and leaning forward to allow easy respiration
Avoid placing patient with breathing difficulties(dyspnea) in supine position
C&S
Culture and susceptibility testing

Sputum
Phlegm and other matter expelled from lungs and trachea
Hematocrit test
Separates the blood cells from the plasma in a centrifuge as part of a complete blood count(CBC)
ESR
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate
Measures how far blood cells with anticoagulant will fall in a clump in one hour
Lipid profile
Tests hyperlipidemia, elevated fats and oils in blood, which clog blood vessels
Mononucleosis test
Confirms patient is in early stages of mononucleosis
Virus
Tiny infectious agents with nucleus in need of a host to reproduce
Bacteria
Single felled microorganism with no nucleus(prokaryotic)
Can live on live host or decaying Matter
Reproduce quickly
Waste products cause disease
Fungus
Decompose organic Matter by absorbing nutrients
Lives on host species to obtain food(parasite)
Myopia
Patient sees nearby objects clearly but objects in distance are blurry
Eye is too long
Presbyopia
Older patients eyes become inelastic and they cannot focus on nearby objects
Reading glasses
Hyperopia
Patient is unable to see nearby objects because the eye may be too small or the focusing power too week
