  • vertical PA placed normally cannot see proximal surfaces between 3 and 4 so need to:
  • PSP plate diagonal and more anteriorly placed
  • tube angle positioned more distally

  • dont rest plate on torus
  • dont put plate behind torus but in front of torus (means closer to teeth than distance between torus and teeth) –> avoid radiopaque shadow over root apices

  • cannot use paralleling technique
  • use bisecting angle technique
  • beam is at right angles to the plane that bisects the tooth and image receptor

  • tongue tied –> short lingual frenum –> tongue mobility limited –> cannot push plate far enough to take root of incisors
  • use bisecting angle technique
  • plate placed on tongue
