patient management Flashcards
1
Q
take PA of 3rd molars
A
- put image receptor more anteriorly
- x ray tube more posteriorly
2
Q
take PA of max canine
A
- vertical PA placed normally cannot see proximal surfaces between 3 and 4 so need to:
- PSP plate diagonal and more anteriorly placed
- tube angle positioned more distally
3
Q
take PA with palatal torus
A
- dont rest plate on torus
- dont put plate behind torus but in front of torus (means closer to teeth than distance between torus and teeth) –> avoid radiopaque shadow over root apices
4
Q
take PA w shallow palate/shallow floor of mouth
A
- cannot use paralleling technique
- use bisecting angle technique
- beam is at right angles to the plane that bisects the tooth and image receptor
5
Q
take PA w ankyloglossia (tongue tied)
A
- tongue tied –> short lingual frenum –> tongue mobility limited –> cannot push plate far enough to take root of incisors
- use bisecting angle technique
- plate placed on tongue
6
Q
take PA of pt w trismus (lock jaw)
A
- cannot open mouth much
- best to take DPT
- use PA w snap a ray xtra
