BW radiograph Flashcards
1
Q
indications for BW
A
- identify caries and monitor progress of caries
- periodontal status
- existing restorations, crowns and bridges
2
Q
ideal positioning for BW
A
chchvr
1. contact: teeth and receptor in contact
2. central: receptor centrally positioned in holder
3. horizontal plane: beam meets teeth and receptor
4. horizontal angulation: alignment of receptor parallel to tangent of arch
5. vertical plane: beam 5-8 deg to compensate curve of monson
6. reproducible
3
Q
premolar BW placement
A
include 3d
4
Q
molar bw placement
A
2mm distal of most posteriorly erupted tooth
5
Q
technique for bw
- black in…
- dot …
- whole… in hole
- cotton roll?
A
- black in sight (not numbers)
- dot on top (BW), dot in slot (PA)
- whole film in hole
- no cotton roll (unlike PA can put cotton roll between bite block and teeth
6
Q
advantage of bw w holder
A
- simple
- holder: auto horizontal and vertical angulation
- no cone cut
7
Q
disadvantage of bw w holder
A
- not for children
- uncomfortable
8
Q
advantage of bw w tab
A
- for children
- inexpensive, simple
9
Q
disadvantage of bw w tab
A
- cone cut
- non reproducible image
- horizontal and vertical angulation determined by technician
- tongue easily displace receptor
10
Q
criteria for BW
A
- appropriate density nad contrast
- include 3d and 7 –> if 8 erupted, include 7-8 contact
- occlusal plane in the middle
- alveolar crest of max and mand
- no cone cut
- no artefacts
- no overlap of proximal surfaces
- no image distortion/blur
11
Q
common imaging errors for BW
A
- cotton roll
- no biting on bite block
- horiztonal angulation (overlaps of proximal sirface) and vertical angulation (occlusal plane not in middle)
