Q
Maximum Heart Rate Calculation
A
Subtract current age from 220 and multiply times .60 or .75 to calculate the target heart range deemed appropriate for an aerobic HR range. Some people like having the numbers to guide them, some prefer the Borg method, which focuses more on perceived level of exertion.
- Regardless of whether Target HR or Perceived Intensity/Exertion levels are utilized, exercise should be discontinued if there is dyspnea, chest pain, dizziness, light-headedness, confusion, or pain.
50%=1-2/10 (Borg) (light activity for the inactive or newly active)
60%=5-6 (moderate effort)
70%=7-8 (maximum heart rate)
