Health literacy
Theory—-for an individual to change behavior related to health and wellness, there first must be a belief that illness can be avoided, and that taking a particular action can reduce risk. The individual must believe that he/she is capable of making the needed change
Health Belief Model (Rosenstock)
Theory—An attempt to depict the multidimensional nature of persons interacting with their interpersonal and physical environment as they pursue health
Health Promotion Model
Theory—based on optimizing the patients ability to assume responsibility for his/her own care and that motivation is based on the anticipation of resuming this responsibility
Self-Care Deficit Theory (Orem)
Discusses how people continuously attempt to control events that affect their lives
Social learning theory
Refers to a persons perceived ability to successfully complete a task
Self efficacy
Encompasses activities designed to produce learning that alters health behaviors or improves health status
