Penicillin safety parameters
Blood tests eg. complete blood count, liver and kidney function
Amoxi/clav counselling
Take with or without food. Common ADR includes n/v/d.
Cloxacillin counselling
Take on an empty stomach, at least 1hr before or 2hr after a meal. Avoid alcohol.
Cephalosporins safety parameters
routine kidney function tests
Cephalexin counselling
Take with or without food. If you experience GI discomfort, take with food.
Cephalosporins ADR
GIT, thrombophlebitis, hypersensitivity
Carbapenems ADR
Neurotoxicity, GIT, rashes, cross hypersens w pen

Tetracyclines counselling
Take on empty stomach. Drink plenty of water to reduce esophageal irritation and ulceration. Should not be taken immediately before going to bed. Phototoxicity, effects on calcified tissues.
Aminoglycosides safety parameters
Renal function tests eg. scr, urine output, electrolytes, urea + therapeutic drug monitoring, peak and trough, ensure no accumulation
Aminoglycosides ADR
NO, hypersensitivity
Ciprofloxacin ADR
Tendon inflammation, photosensitivity, hyper/hypoglycaemia, QTc prolongation
Ciprofloxacin precautions/ci
Do not use in pregnancy, children, or people with altered cardiac conduction. Caution use for pt at risk of seizures.
Ciprofloxacin counselling
GI discomfort (take with food). Avoid adm with Ca, Fe. CNS (dizziness, headache). Photosensitivity. Tendon inflammation, discontinue at first signs of pain esp for elderly.
Cotrimoxazole ci/precaution
Avoid CrCl<15ml/min. Avoid in first and third trimester of pregnancy.
Mylosuppression, SJS, hypersensitivity, hyperkalaemia, hepatotoxicity, n/v, g6pd
