what can having a relaxed conversation with the patient help with?
looking at aesthetics, retention, speech, face height, support of the facial tissues
what do you need to look at with the full denture history?
why teeth lost, how long they have worn dentures for, how many dentures have they had, have they got a favourite denture, have they got a preferred design, which do they prefer (metal/acrylic)
what do you identify with the medical history?
any problems affecting attendance for treatment, procedure tolerance, living with dentures
what do you check for with the extra-oral facial exam?
lower facial height, nasio-labial angle, facial support, smile line, aesthetics of existing dentures, any abnormalities, limited opening
what do you examine with a general soft tissue exam?
tongue, floor of mouth, buccal mucosa, hard palate, soft palate
what do you look for on residual ridges?
number, position, length, ridge form, displaceable tissue
what do you exam on the denture bearing area?
does it look healthy, evidence of trauma, denture stomatitis, ridge form, soft tissue undercuts, sulcus depth, frenum positions
