Q

What causes defects in blood flow?

A
  • Commonly may be caused by thromboembolism
  • Other causes includes: Atheroma, Hyperviscosity (blood is too thick), spasm of vessels, external compression (such as a tumour oppressing the blood vessel), vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessel wall, vascular steal

Q

What is the Virchows Triad ?

A

This gives us answers on thrombolism and embolism. It includes

  • Changes in blood vessel walls
  • Changes in blood constituents
  • Changes in pattern of blood flow
Virchows triad gives the factors which cause thrombosis.

Q

What is thrombosis ?

A

Thrombosis is defined as a formation of a solid mass from the constituents of blood within the vascular system during life. It is in the VESSEL! It is not the same as clot

Q

Pathophysiology of thromosis?

A

Change in vessel wall will be causes by enfothelial injury. Then there should be stasis or turbulent flow. Hypercoagulity of the blood will be an important factor.
