Pathophysiology
defined as the physiology of altered health

- Homeostasis
a balance between the internal and external environment regulated by several brain structures including: medulla oblongata, hypothalamus, reticular formation, and pituitary gland
Negative feedback
reacts to changes after the fact to bring the body back into balance
Positive feedback
addresses a situation and brings it to a conclusion: labor, lactation, lacerations

tendencies that put an individual at risk for developing certain diseases
Pathogenesis
how a disease develops
- Onset
when signs of something unusual is occurring
