- Deposition of yellow-whitish material (extracellular lipids,/proteins) = DRUSEN
- In and under the retinal pigment epithelium (drusen)
- Slow progressive atrophy of the local retinal pigment epithelium

- Choroidal neovascularization
- Leaking of intravascular serous fluid and blood
- Sudden localised elevation of the macula/ detachment of the retinal pigment epithelium

- Involves central part of lens becomes hard
- Due to condensation on lens nucleus
