Pathophysiology Flashcards
1
Q
What is Zollinger-Ellison syndrome?
A
Gastrin secreting pancreatic adenoma =? high gastric acid secretion which caused PUD
2
Q
What is helicobacter pylori?
A
Gram -ve bacteria that causes antral inflammation
- Antral D cells produce more somatostatin
- Antral G cells produce more gastrin => increased acid, which results in PUD
3
Q
What is pernicious anaemia?
A
Lack of red blood cells due lack of vitamin B12 absorption
This is caused because of a lack of parietal cells, leads to a lack of intrinsic factor, lack of vit-B12 absorption
(Also, no D cell stimulation => low somatostatin level => Hypergastrinaemia)
