Define etiology.
The cause of a lesion.
Define pathogenesis.
The sequence of events from initial stimulus to expression of disease. The ability to cause disease.
Define diagnosis.
A concise statement or conclusion concerning the nature, cause or name of a disease.
Define prognosis.
The expected outcome of a disease. The diagnosis helps us predict a prognosis.
Define a lesion.
Any morphological change is tissue during disease.
What is included in a Morphological Diagnosis (MDx)?
- Pathological process
- Location
- Distribution
- Duration and
- Severity
What is included in an Etiological Diagnosis (EtDx)?
-Pathological process
-Location and
-CAUSE
(Should be concisely stated in two words)
What does the term pathognomonic mean?
It means characteristic of a specific disease.
Ex. Multifocal necro-hemorrhagic nephritis in Fading Puppy Syndrome.
Define General Pathology.
The main pathological process incited by various injurious stimuli. Applies to all cells/tissues.
Define Systemic Pathology.
System-specific disease processes. Builds on main pathological processes, but takes into account unique responses to injury of each tissue and specific diseases for each system.
