pathogens and physical barriers Flashcards
skin
primary physical barrier for the body ,has a tough outer layer that prevents pathogens from entering
mucous membrahes
these line the bodys cavaties , like the respiratory digestive and urogenital tract .mucous memebranes produce , this sticky substance which traps pathogens , like in the respiratory tract cilla [tiny hair like substances] work in tandem with mucous membranes to move trapped pathogens out the airway
cilla
they play an important role they move mucous which contains trapped particles and pathogens up towards the throat where it can then be sent to the stomach
tears and saliva
both contain lysosomes which is a enzyme that breaks down bacterial cell walls ,thus providingb an additional layer of defense by killing bacteria before it can enter body
stomach
due to the acidic enviroment of the stomach it destroys pathogens that enter via the mouth so it protects the body from infection via stomach bug
