An organism that causes diseases
What are the 8 types of pathogens?
virus , bacteria , toxin bacteria , resident bacteria , parasitic worms , rickettsia , fungi and protozoan
What is the communicable diseases chain made up of? ( in order )
Pathogens —> reservoir —> portal of exit —> mode of transmition —> portal of entry —> susceptible host
What are at least 5 reservoir?
humans , animals , soil , water , food
What are most common portal of entries?
Mouth , nose , eyes and cuts in skin
What are 4 examples of portals of exit?
Coughing, sneezing, feces and body secretions
What are modes of transmittion?
Direct contact and indirect contact
What are types of direct contact?
Hugging, kissing, anything that you need to physically touch someone for
What can be transmitted by direct contact?
Common cold, chicken pox and TB
What are types of indirect contact?
Airborne and vehicle borne
What do airborne and vehicle borne mean?
Airborne means transmitted through particles in the air. Vehicle borne means transmitted through objects.
What are 3 examples of non communicable diseases?
Heart disease, cancer and diabetes
