Definition of animals suspected of being infected with anthrax:

Official measures in case of bees colonies diseased with European foul-brood:
• obligatory treatment: all colonies in the protection zone

- if only colonies suspected of being diseased: and the laboratory ruled out: without disinfection
- if only colonies suspected of being contaminated: without disinfection after observation
Official measures in case of sheep diseased with scabies:
- obligatory treatment (approved product)
- if <2 cm wool: 1x
- if >2 cm wool: shearing and 1x or treatment 2x ( interval 7-10 days)
- parallel disinfection of keeping place and equipment (same product)
Official measures in case of animals diseased with rabbit haemorrhagic disease:
• movement restrictions, slaughter prohibited, killing,
disposal of carcasses
valuable flock: killing of diseases animals + vaccination (during 6 months) !!!
Definition of animals diseased of equine infectious anaemia:
• typical clinical signs or • non-typical clinical signs but demonstration of the virus and/or 2 positive serology (interval: 21 days) • pathology, histopathology
Samples for FMD
Can be used: is epithelium from
unruptured or freshly ruptured vesicles.
Cannot be used: saliva and blood and/or
oesophageal-pharyngeal fluid samples taken by
probang cup in ruminants or throat swabs from
swine provide an alternative source of virus
Negative single intradermal tuberculin test
Negative reaction: if only limited swelling is observed, with an
increase of not more than 2 mm in the thickness of the fold of
skin without clinical signs such as diffuse or extensive oedema,
exudation, necrosis, pain or inflammation of the lymphatic ducts
in that region or of the lymph nodes.
Inconclusive reaction: if no clinical signs are observed and if the
increase in skin-fold thickness is more than 2 mm and less than
4 mm.
