Glanders Flashcards
Glanders
is a bacterial disease of
perissodactyls or odd-toed ungulates with
zoonotic potential known since ancient times.
It is caused by the bacterium Burkholderia
mallei.
Outbreaks of the disease
may occur in felines living
in the wild or in zoological
gardens.

instilled into the eye at the canthus. In an
infected animal, the eyelids, and sometimes
the side of the face, become swollen and
there may be a little discharge from the eye.
The reaction may also occur to a lesser
extent in the opposite eye.
