Past Paper 1.1 Flashcards
Isomer in cellulose
Beta
Structure of starch related to it’s function
Amylose in starch which are joined by 1,4 glycosidic bonds create a helix which means starch is very compact, meaning starch can store a lot of glucose molecules for it’s size.
Structure of cellulose in regard to it’s function
Chain of cellulose joines together by hydrogen bonds which create microfibrils, giving structural support to plants.
Why triglycerides not polymers?
Fatty acids and glycerol have different structures
What type of fatty acid is oleic acid?
Unsaturated, at least one C=C double bond.
Twi functions of triglycerides in mammal
Protect internal organs and buoyancy
Biochemical test for glucose
Add benedicts reagant and heat, if prsetn, blue -> red/orange/green
Positive bendict result for glucose but not suctose?
Glucose reducing sugar, sucrose not.
Magnesium function in body
ATP must bond with it to be active
Iron function body
Hempglobin: essential for transporting oxygen in blood
Phosphatefunction body
Synthesis of high energy compounds (ATP)
Calcium function body
Bone mineralisation
