Past Mistakes Flashcards
Units of volume
M^3
Why might the same volume of two different materials change temperature at different rates?
. Different mass
. Different specific heat capacity
. Different thermal conductivity
What is the cause of pressure?
Gas particles collide with walls of containers.
How can you improve the experimental procedure of any experiment?
.Repeat measurements and take average
. Increase the range of the thing that is changing
Why would a telescope in space be more beneficial than a telescope on Earth?
.No light pollution
. Can see further
. Not affected by weather
. Can use the telescope during the day
How to determine the half life of a radioactive source?
Measure the count rate in a set interval of time.
Repeat at regular intervals.
Measure the background count and subtract.
How does a water rocket work?
Bottle pushes down on water, water pushes up on bottle
Why do things burn in the atmosphere when they fall down to Earth?
Force of friction is created on the surface of the modules which causes kinetic energy to be converted into heat energy.
Challenges of space travel
Manoeuvring in zero friction environment
Fuel load on take-off
Potential exposure to radiation
Pressure change
Re-entry through an atmosphere
What happens when a rocket passes by a planet?
It receives a gravitational catapult from the planet. This increases its speed
Why does a rocket travelling at a constant speed in space require no extra fuel?
There is no air resistance and therefore no unbalanced force.
Why does the acceleration of a rocket increase as altitude increases?
Gravitational field strength decreases
Why can we see which elements are present in a star from the line spectra?
Lines in the spectrum can be matched with lines in the spectrum from the element
