Electricity Flashcards
What is alternating current?
Where the current reverses direction back and forth.
What is direct current?
Where the current only flows in one direction.
What is a fuse used for?
To protect against currents that are too large.
What is the power rule for fuses?
If the power is less than 720W, use a 3A fuse.
If the power is greater than or equal to 720W, use a 13A fuse.
What is the fuse rule for current?
Choose the fuse with the next size up in current
What is voltage?
Work done per unit of charge.
What is current?
Charge transferred per unit of time.
Why does the resistance change for a filament lamp?
Because as voltage increases, the temperature of the wire increases. Therefore, the resistance increases.
What is resistance?
The opposition to current.
Why do LEDs have resistors in series?
To limit the current in the LED
