Passive transport Flashcards
What is passive transport
When a cell spends no energy of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to move molecules
Where do cells move?
Cells move from high to low concentration.
Types of passive transport:
- Diffusion
- Osmosis
- Facilitated diffusion
What is diffusion
Diffusion is the movement of molecules from an area of high to low concentration without the expenditure of energy (ATP)
What is equilibrium
Equilibrium is the even balance of molecules. This is how many molecules move into and out of cells
What is osmosis
Osmosis is the diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane from a less concentrated solution to a higher concentrated solution.
What is distilled water.
100% H2o, no solutes
What is salt water
High solutes (mostly salt)
