Passive and active transport Flashcards
Does Passive Transport require ATP?
No
How do substances move in passive transport?
High to low concentration
What influences substances in passive transport?
Temperature
Concentration
Distance
What are the three types of passive transport
-simple diffusion
-faciliated diffusion
-osmosis
In simple diffusion, in the cell, which substances diffuse directly though the bilayer?
only non-polar and lipid soluble substances
What occurs during facilitated transport?
Molecules that can’t pass through the lipid bilayer because of size or polarity pass through using protein carriers or channels
What is osmosis?
The diffusion of water cross a semi-permeable membrane
Water moves depending on its _____through channels lined with proteins called______
concentration
aquaporins
Does Active transport require Energy(ATP)?
Yes
How do substances moves in active transport?
Low to high concentration
Active transport requires membrane proteins that are specific for a particular substance. There are two types:
-Primary active transport
-Secondary active transport
Primary active transport uses ATP directly move to solute across the
plasma membrane, against the gradient
Ex. Sodium-potassium pump
Secondary active transport uses how many ATPS to indirecty move more than one substance across the cell membrane?
- A single
ATP creates a gradient for one substance and as it flows back with the gradient it carriers another
substance with it
