Function of the ovary
Organ where eggs cells mature and are released. Produces oestrogen and progesterone from puberty to menopause. There are 2 of them
Function of fallopian tube
The tube that transports the egg from the ovary to the uterus lining using small hairs. Fertilisation may occur here
Function of uterus
Organ where developing baby grows. Thick walls of muscle and elastic tissue.inner lining grows and is released monthly from puberty to menopause
What is the cervix
Ring of muscle at the neck of the uterus
What is the vagina
Muscular tube that opens to the out side. Sometimes know as the birth canal
What is the labia
Fleshy lobes that protect the opening of the vagina
What is the Clitoris
Area very sensitive to stimulation
Function of the testes
Organ that produces sperm from puberty. Also releases testosterone
Function of scrotum
Pouch of skin which holds testes outside the body so that they are at a suitable temperature
Function of epididymis
Mass of coiled tubes which transports sperm from the testes to the sperm duct
Function of the sperm duct
Tube which carries sperm from the testes to the glands and urethra
Function of glands
Opens into the sperm duct and produces seminal fluid. Opens into the urethra and produces alkaline fluid which neutralises urine.
Function of penis
Organ which transports semen and urine to the outside. Contains spongy tissue, which fills with blood when the organ is stimulated. This makes the organ erect so that it can be places inside the female
Function of urethra
Tube which passes through penis. Both semen and urine pass through it.
What is the foreskin
Area of skin which covers the sensitive tip of the penis and is removed in the process of circumcision.
