Parts of the Heart Flashcards
Superior Vena Cava
vein that brings deoxygenated blood from your head and shoulders to the right atrium
Inferior Vena Cava
vein that brings deoxygenated blood from lower body to the right atrium
Vein vs Artery
A = Away
Arteries take blood away from the heart
Veins take blood towards the heart
Right Atrium
one of four chambers of the heart
receives deoxygenated blood from the body and empties it into the right ventricle
Atrium
receives blood from veins
top chambers
Tricuspid Valve
controls the flow of blood from the right atrium (top chamber) to the right ventricle (bottom chamber)
Right Ventricle
accepts and propels deoxygenated blood from the right atrium to the lungs
Pulmonary Semilunar Valve
valve that lies between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery
Pulmonary Trunk
pulmonary artery that stems from the heart
Pulmonary Arteries
carry oxygen-poor blood from your heart to your lungs
Lungs
where blood is oxygenated
Pulmonary Veins
takes blood from the lungs back to the heart
Pulmonary Loop
includes all the arteries and veins related to taking blood to and from the lungs
Left Atrium
receives oxygenated blood from the pulmonary veins
Ventricle
takes blood from the atrium and pumps it through arteries
bottom chambers
