23
Q

Does a Luminous Flame produce Soot?

24
Q

Does a Non-luminous Flame produce Soot?

25
What is Soot?
Luminous flames do not get enough oxygen to turn all the carbon that is being burnt into carbon dioxide. Some of this excess carbon produces soot which is a black substance.

What are the Steps to lighting a Bunsen Burner?
Step 1: Ensure that the rubber tube/ gas hose has no holes/cracks then connect it to the gas tap. Step 2: Turn the collar to completely close the air hole. Step 3: Light the match. Step 4: Turn on the gas tap Step 5: Hold the match to the side of the mouth of the chimney to allow for a flame to be ignited. Step 6: Put the match out and put the burner in safety mode by turning the collar to open the air hole.
