Parts of the Brain Flashcards
4 Major Regions
Brainstem, Cerebellum, Diencephalon, and Cerebrum
Brainstem
The lower part of the brain that connects it to the spinal cord. Responsible for basic life and functions
Cerebellum
Located at the back of the brain, bellow the cerebrum. The “command center”. Responsible for balance and coordination
Diencephalon
Located between the brainstem and cerebellum. Consists of the thalamus and hypothalamus
Cerebrum
The largest part of the brain. Located at the front. Responsible for movement and termperature regulation
Thalamus
The body’s information relay station
Hypothalamus
Produces hormones that control body temperature, heart rate, and hunger
4 Lobes of the Cerebrum
Frontal, Parietal, Temporal, and Occipital
Frontal Lobe
Responsible for creative thinking and personality
Parietal Lobe
Responsible for reading and understanding language
Temporal Lobe
Responsible for memories
Occipital Lobe
Responsible for vision
