Parts of Speech Flashcards
Noun
names a person, place, or thing and answers the questions “Who?” “Where?” or “What?”
It can function as the subject or object of the verb.
Adjective
describes a noun, answering the questions “What kind?” “Which one?” or “How many?”
Usually found right in front of the nouns they describe or after a form of the verb to be (or some other verb that links the subject and adjective)
Adverb
function the same way as adjectives except they describe verbs, adjectives, whole sentences, or other adverbs.
Verb
a word that represents an action, state, or relationship between two or more things. Every sentence must have one. The main verb usually comes right after the subject (but sometimes they are separated or the verb precedes the subject)
