Base/Foot
Supports weight of microscope
Arm
Used to hold and carry microscope. Tube and adjustment screws are attached to it.
Stage
Square that supports the slide. It has a opening in the center where light passes through. Two stage clips to hold slide in position.
Body tube
Positions eye piece and objectives at a suitable distance apart.
Eye Piece
What you look through. Fits on top of tube. Usual magnification=10X.
Nose Piece
Attached to bottom of tube. Rotated to select desired objective.
Objectives
There are 3. Attached to nose piece. High power. Medium power. Small power.
Diaphragm
Under the hole in the stage. Controls light by adjusting size of opening.
Condenser
Below stage. Concentrates rays of light onto specimen. (Can’t be found on school microscopes)
Light Source
Attached to base. Built in light/mirror. Reflects light into opening of stage.
The Adjustment Screws
Move tube up/down to allow lenses to focus.
- Coarse focus adjustment screw-large, moves tube rapidly for rough focusing.
- Fine adjustment screw-smaller, makes final sharp, clear focus.
